Cello Lessons with Peter Walsh
Whether you’re holding a cello for the very first time or preparing for your next big performance, my goal is to create an inspiring, supportive space where you can thrive. Beyond developing excellent technique and musicianship, my ultimate mission is to inspire students to have a lifelong joy and appreciation for music. Cello lessons are taught in-person at my studio in Santa Clarita, CA.
Teaching Principles
Healthy Technique: Establishing a balanced posture, relaxed setup, and natural dexterity.
Practice Skills: Building an array of tools for students to break down pieces of music for effective practice.
Musical Imagination: Using storytelling, imagery, and creativity to bring the music to life.
Performance Confidence: Learning actionable strategies to manage nerves and feel proud on stage.
Comprehensive Musicianship: Integrating ear training, rhythm games, music theory, and fluid note-reading.
Diverse Repertoire: While classical foundations are at the core of my teaching, I include pop, folk music to introduce students to basic improvisation and chart reading skills.
🍁 Now Enrolling: Fall 2026 Suzuki Cello Class
Five spots available for students ages 5–8 looking to begin their musical journey in my Santa Clarita studio.
The Suzuki Method is based on the belief that every child can learn music much like they learn language—with encouragement, repetition, and a nurturing environment. Students begin at a young age with the support of both a parent and teacher, creating a strong foundation for steady growth and confidence.
Students attend weekly private lessons and group classes alongside a parent, who then helps guide practice sessions throughout the week at home. Shared repertoire and collaborative group activities help foster motivation, friendship, and a strong sense of community within the studio.
At the heart of Suzuki cello study is the belief that learning should be joyful. Every small step of progress is celebrated, helping students develop confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love of music.
In each lesson, students work on fundamental cello technique, musicianship, new repertoire, and review of previous pieces to strengthen skills and build artistry step by step.

“Peter is our son's first cello teacher. We feel very lucky that our child’s first cello teacher is such a patient, encouraging, and fun teacher. He uses creative games and engaging activities to help my son practice different skills, which makes learning both effective and enjoyable. My son always looks forward to lessons, has truly developed a love for the cello, and has made tremendous progress in a relatively short time. We really appreciate Peter's kindness, enthusiasm, and dedication to teaching. Thank you for making such a positive impact on our son's musical journey!”
— Vivienne, mom of 8 year-old cellist“Peter is a great musician and an amazing teacher. He taught my 10-11 year old for almost two years, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. He is enthusiastic, patient, and organized. He comes up with fun ways to track practice progress, which encourages young learners to enjoy the music and work harder without making them overly stressed. Highly recommended!”
— Solmaz, mom of 11-year-old cellist“Peter is a wonderful teacher. My primary instrument is piano, but have always wanted to learn cello. Peter met me exactly where I was. He is present, mindful, and warm in his teaching. I’d recommend Peter to students of any age and at any stage of their musical journey.”
